Salisbury Cathedral

Salisbury Conversations 2019

Salisbury Conversations 2019

Join us for a series of conversations addressing the big issues of today with high profile panellists from journalism, public life and think tanks.

The panellists are not the celebrities of politics or government but rather commentators and social and political observers – individuals on the “inside”, who influence our news, views and understanding of the world around us.

The purpose of these events is to encourage us all to think about our future and how we can shape it. At a time when society is fragmented, Salisbury Cathedral offers a safe space where difficult conversations can take place. The discussions start at 20:00 and the topics to be covered are:

6 March 'How should we talk to each other?'

Technology enables us to communicate in more ways and more often than ever but misunderstandings and disagreements are still rife. In the age of fake news and hate speech, how should we talk to each other?

13 March 'What is a good life?'

Are you concerned about how global warming might affect your children’s future? Are you more worried about the effect social media has on emotional intelligence? How can one live a good life today?

20 March 'How should we be governed?'

The 2016 referendum divides opinions about how major decisions are made, what our government’s priorities should be and what it means to be British. How should democracy work and how should we be governed?

The Salisbury Conversations 2019 : Crossing Divides will each be recorded in front of an audience and broadcast the following evening on BBC Wiltshire and BBC Sounds.
